SLOWER proof of concept #1: SLOW MOTION EXPERIMENT
This video is an excerpt from my previous solo work IN THE LIKELY EVENT OF FOREVER,. It’s an excerpt of a number titled “Sullen Sordid Avenue,” written by myself and my music collaborator James Gales.
This shows you an example of my live performance work and some of the movement/choreographic qualities I enjoy exploring.
I’ve edited the excerpt as a way to explore (in a simple way) some of the elements I want to explore in SLOWER. I’m interested in how slow motion impacts movement and sound + the ways I could layer various degrees of slow motion to create a duet/trio with myself.
The text in this video is an experiment in accessibility—I wanted to play with the possibilities of visually conveying the music’s rhythm, texture, and intention through text.
SLOWER proof of concept #2: MOVEMENT AND BPM EXPERIMENT
For this second video, I repeat a simple movement phrase to a drum track I created that moves through the BPMs.
Though this track’s tempos don’t reach the extremes I envision for the work itself, I still wanted to give you a tangible example of SLOWER’s clinically brutal, tempo-based arc.
Prior to performance, I told the audience exactly what was about to happen. I wanted the audience to notice the failures and successes in my trying attempts to embody the extreme tempos.
